FAQS

We realise that comparing massage colleges is a difficult task - so here are some frequently asked questions which we hope will help you. Plus, you might have some other questions! Contact one of our course advisors on 1300 880 885 for further assistance or send us an email - evolve@evolvecollege.com.

1. What kinds of support will I receive?

All of our students have both educational and administrative support available to them.

If you have educational or curriculum questions, our Student Services Team, led by a qualified Trainer and Assessor, will see that your questions are answered by phone or email within 3 business days.

All students have access to the online Evolve Hub, which contains links to course information, industry updates, tips and tools and  other relevant resources. Each subject is clearly laid out in the Evolve Hub allowing you to progress as quickly as you feel comfortable.

Administrative support is also available throughout your course, with a turnaround time of 3 business days.

If you are studying by correspondence, and would like to speak with a Trainer or Assessor for support, we can arrange this for you. Call us on 1300 880 885 or email us at evolve@evolvecollege.com and we will set this up for you.

You can also download the comprehensive Student Handbook that walks you through your course and important information you should be aware of. See our Policies and Downloads page in the About section of our website.

If you would like a Qualification Fact Sheet outlining important information about your qualification, please contact us to request one and we will send it to you.

2. Do I have to give up my day job to do the course?

Not at all! We have available a wide range of options so that you don’t need to give up your day job and you can still complete your studies. If studying on-campus, you can choose weekend or weekday formats depending on your location. The more popular timetable options are displayed on the website. However, contact administration to find out if there are other timetable options currently available. You can even do the majority of your study from the ease of your own home with our home study/correspondence program. Note that correspondence study does require some on-campus attendance. See our Correspondence Program page for more details.

3. I haven't studied for years, are there any exams?

Don't worry! We will support you all the way through your studies, both educationally (through access to education/curriculum support) as well as administratively (with any questions you may have about your course, study location, Trainer/Assessor, arrangements for doing clinical hours, what happens on graduation, and more). Evolve College does not use exams. You participate in relevant knowledge checks, practical evaluations and home study learning experiences throughout your course.
Each step builds incrementally on the last, with our Clinic Program building your confidence and prowess as a therapist in different formats, to help prepare you to feel and be job-ready when you graduate. We give you everything you need to know, so you learn only the material that you need and you are supported as you do so. If you need any additional support at any time, just ask us. We are here to support you all the way through, in whatever way you need.

4. What if I have special needs?

If you have special needs, then we will do all we can to support you in relation to these. For instance, you may have difficulties with language, or you may have a physical disability or condition that makes learning or assessment in a particular way difficult. We can adjust the way you learn and are assessed to take account of your individual circumstances. This is called reasonable adjustment, and may be done at any time, as long as the rigour of the actual assessment is not compromised. We request that you let us know about any special needs you may have so that we can make sure we do everything we can to support you in your learning and development.

5. What if I don't understand an assessment question or any part of my learning materials?

No problem. If you have any questions at any time, please just contact us. We are here to support you throughout your studies. Please contact our Administration Team on 1300 880 885 (Mon-Fri, 9:00am-5:00pm AEDT/ADST). Our Administration Team can refer you to a specialist in relation to specific curriculum questions, or a Trainer/Assessor as needed.

6. If I move, can my course move with me?

Yes! With 14 on-campus training centres Australia-wide, you can organise a transfer from any location! You can even defer your course for up to 6 months to take time off for any reason. Fees apply. Please refer to our Administration Fee Schedule, within the Student Handbook, for details.

7. What are the enrolment dates for the courses and how do I enrol?

If you are choosing on-campus as your study mode, visit Evolve College's website for upcoming classes or speak to one of our course advisors. Not all timetable options may appear on the website so you may like to contact Evolve College for a complete breakdown of study options available in your particular area. To make your enrolment as easy and convenient as possible for you, simply visit our website or phone us and we´ll take care of all the paperwork for you. If you are choosing to study by correspondence, you can enrol in and start your course any time. Our course advisors are there to help you sort out all your study options and select what works best for you. You can call us any time during normal office hours for course advice on 1300 880 885 (Mon-Fri, 9:00am-5:00pm AEDT/ADST).

8. What is the difference between on-campus and correspondence study? Does it matter which I do?

Which you choose depends on what you want to do with your study.

For some people, who live remotely or who have extremely busy work or family schedules, studying at home in their own time is something they require. For these people, our correspondence program suits well. Correspondence is a self-paced study program, so it requires a commitment on your behalf to move through your study at the expected progress rate and keep yourself on track. We are here to support you throughout, but you undertake the bulk of the work at home, with the support of professional videos featuring our lead Trainer, who walks you through every practical technique. At the same time, correspondence study does not mean you do everything from home. There are on-campus attendance requirements – all your practical assessments are done on-campus, where you are assessed by an Evolve College Trainer/Assessor as part of completing your qualification. You also need to fulfil all aspects of our Student Clinic Program, to meet the requirements of the Training Package.

On-campus study means you do all of your practical training in clinical techniques on-campus. You are also assessed in your practical techniques on-campus. You may do theory study and assessments from home in your own time, but all clinical training is done at one of our training centres Australia-wide.

Both correspondence and on-campus students receive the same quality of education and training from us, and we are here to support all students, whichever their mode of study chosen. However, the way you study is different – as with correspondence students, the onus is very much on you to work your way through the necessary tasks. If you sign up for correspondence, you need to be ready and committed to do this.

In addition, there are differences as perceived by industry, and these should be taken into consideration in deciding which mode of study is right for you. The main one of these is private health fund requirements for approved provider status. This is explored further below.

9. What are the Massage Practice classes and Student Clinics?

The Massage Practice classes requires students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to work effectively within a massage framework. The Massage Practice classes incorporates assessment, specialised clinical learning, and clinical practice.

The Massage Practice classes includes the following on-campus classes (each held on weekend or weekday options), at the student’s chosen Evolve Training Centre:

Massage Practice 1 MP1 (2 day assessment class and clinic)

Massage Practice 2 MP2  (2 day assessment class and clinic)

HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy students will attend 2 student clinics after successful completion of the MP1 (4 days of clinic in 2 x 2 day blocks).

HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage students will attend 5 campus clinics after successful completion of MP2 (10 days of clinic in 5 x 2 day blocks).

Students who complete the HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy with Evolve College and continue on with the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage will complete a total of 5 student clinics.

10. What is the Evolve College Clinic Program?

The Evolve College Clinic Program helps prepare students for clinical practice in a real life setting, stepping students through different types of clinical practice so they can build their confidence and ability over time. The Clinic Program comprises:

Simulated Clinic

Student Clinic

Community Clinic

Virtual Clinic

Each aspect builds on the last, helping students to be job-ready upon graduation. To download a statement on our Clinic Program, visit our downloads page.

11. Does the Evolve College course meet the 200 hour requirement of the Training Package?

Yes. Evolve College’s HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy and HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage courses each meet the mandatory clinical hour requirements set under the HLT Training Package, which are:

·      HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy: 80 hours client consultation work (CCW or clinical hours), 60 of which must be supervised

·      HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage: 200 hours client consultation work (CCW or clinical hours), 150 of which must be supervised

14. Am I covered by Evolve College’s insurance as a student?

Yes. Evolve College’s insurance policy covers you in your work as a student, as long as it fits within your educational program as set by Evolve College. When performing clinical hours, e.g. in Community Clinic or logbook hours, you need to notify us of venues at which you are performing massage (if outside your home clinic) in order for them to be covered. Contact us on 1300 880 885 (Mon-Fri, 9:00am-5:00pm AEST/ADST) or email us at evolve@evolvecollege.com.

15. What is a USI and do I have to have one?

Yes. The Government requires all students studying in Australia to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This is a number unique to you, which has details of all of your study associated with it. You can obtain details of any qualification or unit of competency you have studied at any point, when linked to your USI.

Under legislation, RTOs must not issue a qualification or statement of attainment to any student unless that student has a verified USI. To obtain a USI is a very quick and easy process and can be done online, including from your smart phone/iPhone. Simply go to https://www.usi.gov.au/students/create-your-usi and follow the prompts. You will require a Driver’s Licence or other ID. The process takes less than 5 minutes. Send us details of your USI so we can record it for you on our system and verify it for you. Note you will not be able to receive your qualification without this.

16. What does private health fund approved provider mean? Will I be eligible?

A private health fund approved provider is a therapist who has been approved by the private health fund to offer rebates to members of that health fund who see the therapist for approved sessions. This is available to Remedial Massage Therapists only (i.e. graduates of the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage, and not graduates of the HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy or its predecessor qualifications).

The largest private health fund in Australia is Medibank Private, which introduced new educational criteria for Remedial Massage Therapists in 2014. In order to qualify for a provider number with Medibank Private, a graduate of the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage is required to have studied on-campus, with all clinical training to be undertaken on-campus over a minimum of 12 months. Evolve College’s on-campus program meets these requirements.

Studying all or the majority of your diploma by correspondence (at any training organisation) does not meet these requirements, even though there is on-campus attendance within Evolve College’s correspondence program.

Hence students wanting private health fund provider numbers are advised to think carefully about study on-campus. We are here to assist you in this regard, to talk through the options that work best for you. You can also visit our private health funds pages on our website, which explain the requirements and developments in more detail, including some interesting outcomes from a survey of our students and other things you may wish to bear in mind.

17. How do I become a private health fund approved provider?

If you are an on-campus student, once you complete your studies, we perform all the necessary checks of your assessments, duration of study, mode of study and the like and if you have met all requirements of Evolve College and the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage, we will issue a letter confirming that you satisfy the requirements of Medibank Private. This letter is provided to your professional massage association, who processes your application for a provider number.

Note that requirements for applications for provider numbers may vary from association to association.

18. Which professional associations should I join and when should I join?

It is your choice as to which professional association you join. Evolve College works with specialised massage associations including  Massage Association Australia (MAA), Massage Australia (MA) and Association of Massage Therapists (AMT).

Your association may offer student membership, which is available to you while you are studying your massage course. You can then apply to upgrade to a practitioner member on graduation. Contact your association for more information.

19. Can students from overseas study with Evolve College?

People from overseas with a valid existing visa can study on-campus with Evolve College or by correspondence, as long as their visa permits study. If you are on a visa, you are required to tell us, and to provide us with a copy of your visa. You are also required to tell us of any changes to any conditions on your visa, or your visa itself.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Evolve College does not deliver courses to anyone on a student visa as Evolve College is not registered with CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions & Courses for Overseas Students). If you are on a student visa, you should visit the CRICOS website for more information on your eligibility to study in Australia and which institutions you may study with.
