How to become a massage therapist

Evolve College offers massage courses: HLT42021 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy and HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage

How to become a massage therapist?

Becoming a massage therapist is an easy process! It really is just a matter of finding what training provider will work for you. So consider these 3 things when wanting to study the Diploma of Remedial Massage and become a certified, practicing massage therapist.

1. Is the training provider of the highest quality?
2. Does it lead to career opportunities after studying?
3. Are their educational methods understandable and flexible?

There are so many different types of training across Australia that offer different expertise and training methods so its hard to know what you are getting into. Massage therapy courses have elements of on-campus physical training and online theoretical training that needs to be completed to be accredited and ready to practice. So knowing how you like to learn and what is most effective to your lifestyle is key. No one can learn for you so keeping motivation and positivity high is crucial in practicing a new skill and starting a new career path. Being around and involved with other students who are also learning what you are is a great way to stay motivated! This could lead to so many new connections and friends in the industry.

1. Is the training provider of the highest quality?

This is the first and most important thing to consider when applying to a training provider. Does this provider have the necessary qualifications (RTO & VET accreditations) and are they constantly updating their training? Along side these things it is important to note the quality of trainers they employ. This will help you get an idea of how passionate their team is which greatly impacts the quality of education you will be receiving.

2. Do they offer career opportunities after studying?

The future is where most of our anxiety comes from. As humans we want to ensure that the future is as clear as possible. This massage course is specific to those who want to start a career in massage therapy and a major concern for anyone studying anything is the employment pathway that follows study. So a great training provider will have access to unique opportunities with employers and/or relationships in place to make the transition from study to employed, as easy as possible. While no certainty can be guaranteed of course, you want to be in an environment that is as focused and motivated about starting your career as you are.

3. Are their educational methods understandable and flexible?

With the modern life we all live in a constant state of flux, having an education provider who has an open line of communication is the first step. Are you talking to a real person who can understand you? Do you sense they are more passionate about you than you doing the course? This can be tested by getting on the phone with someone before you make a decision.

So now you have established you can speak to someone genuine, how is their training set up? We find that for the best massage therapy experience there needs to be a healthy balance of online learning and on campus training. This is great because it doesn't lock you into more on-campus days than necessary (Days where you could be fulfilling your own personal commitments) and studying online means you can learn at your own pace. One worry that people have when trying online study for the first time is that they won't know what to do and there is no one there to help them. So addressing these issues before studying will sense that you are mentally and physically prepared for learning. Its hard to learn when you have 100 other worries and questions in your head or you feel like you are alone. Study shouldn't be like that and thankfully it doesn't have to.

So why become a massage therapist?

Massage therapy is a practice that can actually bring positivity to you and every client you meet. On the simplest level, working to provide someone else's therapy is truly incredible and needed part of life. Massage therapy has seen so many people evolve in their personal lives by entering into an industry with a positive culture and of course their business lives. Being in an industry that is constantly searching for passionate therapist's means that your skills can actually pay the bills!

So if you are wondering how to become a massage therapist please consider these key questions to ask before you decide on a training provider. The last thing you want is to have your dream and passion blocked from its full potential.
