Great Aussie Hike

Gapsted Recreation Reserve (Albury campus students)
Event Date: 15/10/2022

The Great Aussie Hike is a volunteer led, not for profit that was established in 2020 as a way of helping people's mental health during long lockdowns. It has grown in the last three years to now also be an important fundraising opportunity for charities who have struggled to raise vital funds throughout the CoVID years. We focus on running a challenge that is extremely inclusive, by allowing teams to share the distance too. We are passionate about the participant experience and work tirelessly to ensure walkers have a fun day, while feeling supported along their entire journey. Check out our event video recap at www.greataussiehike.com.au for a great visual of how we work. We are therefore writing in the hope that you could see the mutual benefit in working together for this fantastic cause. As a health practitioner myself, I know first hand how valuable real life experience was as a student working on both events and as a footy trainer. It is very different to a clinical setting! Your students would also play a vital role in helping the amazing walkers feel supported and importantly make it to the finish line. We focus on five minute treatments - looking after one muscle or sore spot to get them to the finish line (another 8km). This helps make lines very manageable. Students new to your course are also very welcome, as a basic shoulder massage can be just as helpful to keeping someone's spirits up. The last rest stop is at Gapsted Recreation Reserve and we are hoping for massage support from 2:30pm - 5:30pm. First aid support will also be available to check for any red flags, etc and confirm that walker safe to massage. Power, water, shelter, etc can all be provided as well. If you have any further questions, I would be more than happy to chat further.
